Chicago PD 2016 Recap: Episode 20 – In a Duffel Bag (2024)

Tonight onChicago PD season 3, the team investigates an abandoned newborn baby who is found dead. Also, Voightis surprised when he finds out that his son is in town onChicago PD 2016. If you missed the last episode ofChicago PD season 3, check out myChicago PD 2016 recapright here to catch up!Tonight’s episode ofChicago PD season 3 started off with Voight playing cards with some of his friends and he finds out thatJustin was in town when he is supposed to be in training. Voight then gets a call about a suspicious package and when Voight gets to the scene, they find a pink duffel bag near a tree. Inside the bag is a body of a newborn baby and according to preliminary findings, the baby had been there for about seven hours.

They find out that the duffel bags were given out at a street fair, but there is no way to know who got one. Inside the bag there were rocks, like whoever dumped her planned on sinking her in the water but chickened out. When RomanandBurgessget to Med to get the baby from the morgue, but when she got there and they got her warm, her pulse came back.Dr. Manning took a blood panel and they found out that the baby was anemic and had sickle cell. This means that one of the parents also has it and there is a registry for people with the disease,

Ruzekfound a guy they like off the registry, a guy who isn’t from Chicago but his phone pinged a mile away from where the baby was dumped an within the time frame. They go and talk to him and he denies having a baby and tells Ruzek and Olinski that he was there visiting a medical clinic. Olinski tells him that they have a DNA kit andasks for a DNA sample from him. He also tells him that if the DNA comes back and proves he isn’t related to this baby, he will give him a heart felt apology and a 6-pack. When they tested his DNA, it is a match to the baby that they found.

He is still denying that the baby is his, he tells them that he comes out there to see a doctor and if he had a baby, he would know it. Voight tells him that he will do everything in his power to find out what happened and how his two week old baby. Dawson asks him where he was in July of last year, which would have been around the time the baby was conceived and he tells them about a girl namedTana Myerthat he slept with.Lindsay andHalstead go to talk to Tana’s parents and they give them the information for their lawyer and tells them that the guy they have in custody is lying.

When they leave, Tana’s father comes out to talk to them and tells them that Tana did give birth to the baby, but they hired a mid-wife and she found a family that wanted another baby. They are a strict Jewish family and it would make them look bad in their community so they did a closed adoption with no paperwork. He doesn’t know the name of the family, but gives them the information for the mid-wife that found the family.

Meanwhile, Roman and Burgess are still at the hospital looking over the baby, when Manning comes out and shows them that the baby’s heart is beating on it’s own. When they look into the mid-wife’s financials, they find that she had gotten $20,000 and Olinski andAtwater go to talk to the mid-wife. She tells them that she always wanted to be a mid-wife, she tells them that as far as the $20,000, Tana’s mother gave it to her to get rid of the baby. She tells them that she didn’t want to take the money, but Tana’s mother threatened to turn her into immigration if she didn’t. She then gives them the name of the family that she brought the baby to.

When Voight and Dawson get to the house to talk to the couple, they tell them that the mid-wife said that the family changed their mind and she never brought them a baby. They even asked the 6 year old son if there was a baby in the house, but he tells them that there wasn’t. Meanwhile at the hospital, the baby goes into cardiac arrest. She comes out of it, but Manning tells them that whoever they pray to, now is a good time to start.

Back at the precinct, they are trying to find out who was caring for this child for the two weeks before they tried to dump it. Lindsay and Halstead go to talk to Tana’s parents again. They find out that the mid-wife blackmailed them for the $20,000. $10,000 was supposed to go to the mid-wife and the other $10,000 to the family she gave the baby to for their discretion. They bring the mid-wife in again and while they are talking to her, Tana comes in. The first thing she asks is if the baby was ok.

Tana tells Lindsay that she was forced to give the baby up or her family was going to disown her. Voight then asks her if her and the mid-wife got rid of the baby together and she tells them that she didn’t have anything to do with it. She asks again if the baby is going to be ok and she is clearly upset. Later, Voight is talking to Lindsay about when Camile told him she was pregnant. Justin was a twin, but Justin was the first born and the other baby, a girl, was still born. Ruzek comes in after digging on theFlynn family, the family that was supposed to take Tana’s baby and he found out thatTommy had a business go belly up and he did work for the gym that the duffel bag came from.

Voight tells them to put a hold on booking the mid-wife and they raid the Flynn house. There is no one home and the cars are gone, they family is on the run. They have Mouse find their cars on traffic cams and they are able to track them down at a gas station. They arrest Tommy, his wife and take the son in. Tommy tells them that he had too many drinks the night before and he was supposed to go home and wake their son up for the lunar eclipse. When he went to wake the son up, he accidentally woke the baby up so he brought her outside to the car with them. He passed out and in the morning when the son woke up, he couldn’t wake the baby up.

While Dawson was talking to the son, we find out that Tommy isn’t the one who brought the kids outside for the eclipse, the son did it by himself. He wanted to show his sister the eclipse and he accidentally left her outside, the father is covering for him because he is afraid his 6 year old is going to be in trouble. Tommy tells Voight what happened. Halstead and Lindsay are able to get charges pressed against Tana’s mother for abduction and Lindsay is able to put the cuffs on her at the restaurant. The mid-wife is going to be deported.

The baby is doing great, Tana goes to see her and asks what is going to happen to her. Lindsay tells her that the baby will go into DFYS custody, but Tana wants to fight to get her back.Olive is having dinner with Voight when the baby wakes up, they are talking about Justin not telling Voight he was in town. At Molly’s, Manning, Burgess and Roman are having drinks and then there seems to be some attraction between Burgess and Roman and sure enough, they end up sleeping together!
